Cynthia Denise Bailey was born in Decatur, Alabama in the United States of America on the 19th day of February, 1967. Her father, Elijah Bailey, worked at an auto plant while her mother, Barbara Bailey, worked at a sewing factory.
Barbara was 18 when was was pregnant with Cynthia. She conceived another child, Malorie a year after Cynthia was born. Cynthia grew up in Tuscumbia, where she was raised by her grandparents.
Cynthia Bailey claims her grandmother is the first black entrepreneur in America. As a young child, Cynthia was inspired by her grandmother Mae Frankie Ford who did several jobs to survive.
Her grandmother sold hotdogs and hamburgers, worked in a sewing factory, cleaned people’s houses, and even volunteered to look after an elderly woman.
