Early Life and Biography

Blueface was born on 20th January 1997 in Los Angeles, California.  His real name is Jonathan Michael Porter.  He spent his childhood years in the Mid-City region of West Los Angeles and went to different elementary schools in the neighborhood before settling with his mother, Karlissa Saffold, in Santa Clarita Valley.

Later, he decided to spend some time with his father, who resided in Oakland. After moving in with his father, Blueface enrolled in Arleta High School and became a member of the school’s football team and marching band.

In 2014, he made it to the school’s quarterback and helped his team win the East Valley League Championship. Jonathan Porter had an excellent performance with the team, and many colleges were keen on offering him football scholarships.

Before graduation, he played football for Fayetteville State University in North Carolina for two years before leaving in 2016 to pursue a career in rap music. Interestingly, he recalls his time as a football player in his hit single “Thotiana”, one of his chart-topping songs. In the music video, he gives a picture of a high school quarterback slighting his mentor because of his interest in women and notoriety.

Music Career

After his stint in college, Blueface moved back to California, where he worked on a couple of gigs, including at an office depot and as a maintenance worker. He developed an interest in rap music at a young age and drew inspiration while listening to Snoop Dogg, The Game, and G-Unit’s 50 Cent.

In 2017, during his early days as a rapper, he operated under the stage “Blueface Bleedem”. The name was used as a reference to the School Yard Crips street gang. Blueface claims that his entry into hip-hop music was an accident or more like a coincidence.

According to him, TC4800 forgot his phone charger in a recording studio before leaving for a show in West Los Angeles. Blueface was sent to Laudiano’s studio to retrieve the phone charger.

Upon his arrival, he was challenged to a rap battle and tested to jump on a beat produced by Laudiano. He took up the challenge, stepped into the vocal booth, and rapped for the first time in his life.

That studio session eventually gave birth to Blueface’s first-ever song, “Deadlocs”, which was made by Laudiano. The song was eventually posted on SoundCloud and gathered a small following on SoundCloud. He dropped another single titled “F**k It Up” featuring Trendd in 2017.

In 2018, Jonathan removed the “Bleedem” in his stage name and officially became known as Blueface. In June of the same year, he dropped a music project entitled “Dead Locs”, which generated a lot of buzz in his neighborhood, precisely in Southern California. The album featured the original version of his smash hit “Thotiana”. The same year, he released a second EP dubbed “Two Coccy” on Spotify and SoundCloud.

Under the record label, Thortiana debuted at #75 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it his first song on the Billboard chart. The success of the song propelled him to make a remix.

Blueface announced the remix of Thortiana, featuring Cardi B and YG. The song reached number 4 on the U.S RnB/Hip-hop chart and peaked at #8 on the Billboard Hot 100, 9 in New Zealand, 12 in Canada, and 17 in the United Kingdom. Thortiana became Blueface’s most successful song to date.
