The statewide power outage has put electricity distribution businesses (DisCos) in jeopardy of having their licenses revoked.
Despite the generation firms’ (GenCos) increased power output to 4,000MW, the minister of power, Adebayo Adelabu, expressed severe concern over the DisCos’ continued insufficiency in distributing electricity.
Adelabu vented his frustration on Wednesday via his X handle, saying that some power distribution businesses were still not doing their jobs properly and were wasting the electricity that the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) supplied, even though there had been progress.
Every distribution company will have my unwavering support in making them answer for their actions. The minister cautioned that serious repercussions, including the revocation of licenses, may be enforced for willful non-performance.
“More than that, I have told TCN to fix the transmission towers and power lines that were damaged so that the impacted areas can have better power,” he included.
