A federal high court judge in Lagos, Justice Akintayo Aluko, handed down a five-year prison term to Taiwo Anuoluwapo on Tuesday for bringing 23.3 kg of a synthetic variety of cannabis sativa known as Canada Loud into the nation in loudspeakers.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arraigned Anuoluwapo last week on Tuesday and charged him with three counts of conspiracy and unlawful possession of the banned narcotic. Anuoluwapo pleaded guilty to one of the charges.

However, freight forwarder Gboyega Babalola, who was also charged with him, entered a not guilty plea. Yesterday, Justice Aluko delayed the case to review the facts and hear the freight agent’s bail application after their pleas.
Prosecutor Abu Ibrahim informed the court at Tuesday’s resumed hearing that the convicted man was taken into custody in the Ikeja, Lagos, vicinity of Allen Avenue on February 17, 2024.
The offender, according to Ibrahim’s testimony, committed the crimes in concert with two others: ‘Pappy,’ a US-based individual, and KIM, a Canadian resident with the phone number +19296691076, according to Ibrahim.
