Even though Senate President Godswill Akpabio was exonerated of any misconduct, Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe (Cross River North) insisted that the 2024 budget had not been padded with N3.7 trillion.
The head of the Senate Committee on Gas, Jarigbe, called the rumored N3.7 trillion increase to the 2024 budget “false” and emphasized the importance of members continuing to defend the Senate’s purity.
During a plenary session, senators responded to allegations of N3.7trillion padding by Abdul Ningi, but senators also maintained that the amount passed was only N28trillion, not N3.7trillion.
In a statement that was made public to journalists, however, Jarigbe vehemently denied the existence of any such padding and said that senators were satisfied with the explanation provided by the Senate Committee on Appropriation.

“The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations clears the issue of Budget Padding,” he stated, adding that $3.7 trillion had not been added to the budget.
He begged his fellow senators to preserve the Senate’s sanity and integrity, pointing out that although senior senators received additional district projects, junior senators like himself did not.
