The wife of Nigeria’s vice president, Senator Kashim Shettima, Hajiya Nana Kashim Shettima, has praised the FAME Foundation for its work in empowering women and girls through sports.

Held in Abuja to commemorate International Women’s Day 2024 under the subject “Count HER In: Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress,” she bestowed the accolade at the tournament.
With the support of Bilikisu Abubakar Kyari, the minister of agriculture’s wife, Shettima praised the substantial work done by FAME Foundation to improve the mental, emotional, and financial health of women and girls across the country. She emphasized the need of closing the gender gap and spoke about the organization’s powerful programs that empower women to contribute to society’s progress.

To empower women and create initiatives that promote the educational and skill-acquisition pursuits of girls, she stressed the necessity of public-private partnerships.
Celebrating women’s accomplishments, advancing gender equality, and empowering women worldwide, the event, now in its fifth edition, was timed to coincide with the worldwide celebration of International Women’s Day.

Mrs. Aderonke Ogunleye-Bello, the FAME Foundation’s executive director, has previously stated that the football tournament was hand-picked for its ability to bring Nigerians together.
Ten girls from low- and middle-income families will get scholarships to help them continue their education, she revealed.
“No one cares about where you are from or the language you speak when we play sports, particularly football, the most popular game in Nigeria,” she added, adding that all participants simply embrace themselves and are pleased with one another.

To help pave the road forward and rally behind women, the FAME Foundation is purposefully leveraging sports as a unifying force.

Press play to start playing.
“There are talented young women, but they come from modest or low-income backgrounds. We will be awarding full scholarships to them today. Therefore, we will do all in our power today to empower young girls in our county, celebrate diversity, and stand in solidarity with women.
