A Peer Supporter position is available at Lifewise. Individuals coping with substance abuse and mental health challenges founded and run the sole non-profit organization in their province, Lifewise. Our goal is to provide those struggling with addiction and mental health disorders, as well as those who support them, with the tools they need to overcome these challenges and live healthier, more fulfilling lives.
This role will report directly to the Opioid Treatment Team (OTT), so please keep that in mind. The candidate’s location is not a concern because we have offices in Stephenville and Corner Brook. With Lifewise’s help, the OTT Teams will decide on the job’s responsibilities and schedule. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working with various populations and will be able to effectively communicate with those who are dealing with complex mental health and addiction difficulties.
Peer Supporters provide direct assistance to others through a range of settings and methods, including public education, policy consultation, and peer support. The following places can be considered environments: Lifewise offices, clinical offices/teams, hospitals, shelters, companies, workplaces, communities, peers’ homes, and the streets. Possible modalities include group and individual online support as well as telephone and in-person assistance.
Tasks and Occupations
The individual in this role is expected to draw on their personal experiences while also following the protocols set out by organizations such as Peer Support, the Recovery Approach, Lifewise, and others. The role also includes:
Consistently offers mutual support to participants in both ongoing and prospective Opioid Treatment Hub programs
Through activities such as participating in committees, giving public talks, and establishing relationships, one raises awareness amongst peers, professionals, and community partners about the significance of peer support on the road to recovery.
Maintains program statistics and compiles, updates, and reports on them weekly and quarterly
Participates in program meetings on a regular basis to keep communication flowing and share relevant information
Assists with program trend analysis, problem identification, and solution development and recommendation.
Always stays up-to-date on the latest developments in recovery and peer support
Performs duties as assigned by the organization
Additional responsibilities may be assigned based on qualifications and experience.
Personal experience (and openness to sharing) with addictions, ideally with addictions, but also willing to address mental health issues.
Background in teamwork and fulfillment from assisting others.
Possess a current, unrestricted Class 5 driver’s license and be able to regularly use personal transportation (this role requires travel).

Time spent working
Position is full-time and hours per week can be flexible. The bulk of shifts fall between 8:00 am and 12:00 midnight, but shifts happen every day. The fast-paced, flexible community setting requires a degree of flexibility in work hours.
